Hi, I'm changing a driveshaft and need to top up/change the oil. All the information I've found shows the fill plug just behind slightly higher than the driveshaft. On mine the fill plugs not there - can anyone confirm if the bolt at the front/side of the gearbox is the fill plug. My hesitation is not like the drain plug - it's got like a nipple in the middle!

Hi all, so I've found out why the M66 gearbox on my XC60 doesn't have a fill plug. My car has the D4204T5 engine, on:-
https://www.volvocars.com/uk/support...ade-and-volume - it states that for a D4204T5 the gearbox should be filled with 1.45L rather than the 1.9L for other engines. Rather re-position the fill plug to give the correct fill level it's just been deleted. To refill the gearbox I took off the air filter box, removed the reverse light switch from the front of the gearbox and filled the gearbox using the switch hole. Only problem is I had to measure out the exact amount to put in and make sure there was no spillage when filling it. Other consequence is that the only way to check the oil level is to drain and replace it. |
