Can someone just clarify this for me once and for all?
I've just been searching and found all sorts of figures of torques and suggestions using Loctite. I know the single securing bolt has a quite critically low torque so as not to strip the aluminium in the block. I replaced the tensioner 4 years ago and can't for the life of me remember what it was and I can't find my notes. Appreciation in advance for the help |

Firstly I cannot clarify you question.
This is an opinion based on my experience. My center bolt holding the tensioner into the engine block was "loose" on my 5 pot D5 when I changed the tensioner and belt! I used and now always use in this application a thread lock type product, nip the bolt up and leave as long as possible before starting the engine. I think the thread lock product will do more good than an exact bolt torque setting! If the torque setting was used before alone, it did not do the job safely! I assume your D3 is the same generic engine, if I am wrong I apologise in advance. Regards Last edited by Adrian B; Jan 24th, 2023 at 06:58. |

It’s an M8 bolt, official torque is 24nm, for what it’s worth and from experience it certainly doesn’t want to be anything over 30nm so if you haven’t a torque wrench just nipped down tight with a standard length 3/8 ratchet will be sufficient. In the Volvo kit with the new tensioner is a new bolt pre coated with loctite. So if you are re using the bolt clean it and apply a small amount on the threads.
