Question Both tail lights failing intermittently

I have a weird issue on my MY2018 XC60, while I am driving along, lights in std auto mode, all the rear lights can go out.

Fog, break and reverse are fine.
Nothing on the dash or car status messages.

My first attempt at fixing it was to look in the fuse box under the bonnet, fuse 48 had an icon like side lights, when I pulled it the front side lights stayed on and the rear lights came on.

I put it back and checked everything was fully pushed home, wiggled it about etc, lights solidly on, put it back together.

Next use of the car rear lights came on as I unlocked, but when I stopped driving, they were out again. Came back to the car, unlocked, lights came on.

Now I find that if they go out I just have lock and unlock the car to get them back.

I assume the light units in the car are smart/can bus types so if they fail the car will squeal about it, so has its computer mind decided to turn the lights off?

Not sure where to start.

Not much you can do yourself without a wiring diagram and they don't exist outside the dealer for post 2016 models
