You cannot update the software yourself, it has to be done by a Volvo dealer.

Ok so I have to call the service to book an apointment.

One other question regarding this issue, this software problem is it causing it in some instances that the VCM unit has to be replaced completely ?
I thought I saw someone mention that this "SW problem" caused the unit to fail due to the battery draining completely or something like that, is that possible ?

I don't know but it's an expensive module to replace. Mine failed (not the battery problem) and was replaced under warranty but the cost would have been ~£1,500.
