turbocharged engine
Hi all, I'm heading off today on a 230 mile round trip with the caravan, what I want to know is does towing a caravan with a turbo'd engine ruin it, reason I'm asking is i've just had to have the engine re-ringed at 83'000 and had been towing a caravan for since 78'000, the cars got FVSH. when you do a compression test on a N/A engine the reading is about 4bar but on a T4 its only 0.7bar which to me means at low revs the compression is very low coupled with it using almost twice the fuel could unburnt fuel be sliding down the pistons washing them of their oil?
am I best to leave it in 4th gear where the engines at its peak torque or am I worrying for nothing? Replies ASAP will be much appreciated. Daz |

I wouldn't worry myself. The turbo on the car will increase the available torque and power of the engine at the loss of some compression - ie Production turbocharged cars will nearly all have lower compression than their N/A counterparts.
My father towed a caravan for many years with a turbo charged engine and had no issues with it and I myself, have towed large loads and had no problems.
