Default Intermittent diesel throttle response loss 2001 V40

Greetings all. I wondered whether anyone had experience of a V40 diesel (2001) which periodically won't throttle all the way up. The problem can happen from cold or driving on the motorway, and with foot flat to the floor, you can get approx 2200 revs only - sometimes a little more sometimes less. The fault state will continue for either a few seconds or a couple of minutes. If you are on the motorway, you can hold your foot right down and eventually the power will just come back. No fault codes are logged, and so far I have only exchanged the accelerator pedal units between my 2 V40s. This made no difference. I really would be grateful for your insight. Thanks a lot!

Hi there,

When I first picked up my 2001 Diesel V40 I had this.

I wrote a thread on here about it.

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...ght=loss+power

Lots of threads on this sort of issue if you search the forum.

I had it happen twice to me, I bought two bottles of Redex fuel additive and put them through the car (4 tanks of diesel) and touch wood, I've not had it in happen in about 5 months.

Many Thanks,

Daniel.

Default Redex

Thanks Daniel - I will certainly give this a try. Your original post describes exactly what I have been experiencing. Sometimes it has gone for weeks without doing it - then it loses throttle to some degree every day. Today was a good day! It knows that I am on to it perhaps?

Hey up,

It's a weird problem.

I know my EGR valve is iffy, so I put it down to this.

But the Redex may help to de-coke some stuff without removal from the car.

Let me know how you go!

Many Thanks,

Daniel.
