My 940, which has just passed 370,000m, seems fine after using a vacuum pump to remove approx 6 litres of blackened ATF which, of course, was replaced with 6l of fresh ATF.
The advantage of using the pump has been that only as much fluid that is removed needs to be replaced.
The pump is very easy to use and can remove engine oil, brake fluid, PS fluid, ATF etc.

Hi Kevham would your car be fitted with the AW or ZF box?
I did an oil change in my 240 as the oil was black smelt burnt and was thinner than water? It now has a little whine when cold and first used but soon disapears.I took my sump off the AW70/71 box and was going to take the strainer filter off but it seemed impossible due to several internal steel pipes which were push fitted to the inside of the box.basically I couldn't get the mesh to drop lower enough to get it out!and as I didn't know what held the pipes thee I couldn't remove them?

Regards Brian.

I don't know the answer to that I'm afraid - how can I tell which box it is?

Hi Kev you can tell as far as I know by looking at the gear selector. On the AW70/71 it has 1,2 D,N,R,P and the ZF has 1,2,3 D,N,R,P.Also the AW has a lockout button on the back of the gear selector if it's pushed an orange arrow appears on the dash and stops it going into fourth gear. This is for towing. The ZF doesn't have this facility as far as I'm aware.
I know nothing about the ZF but expect I will end up learning through neccesity.
Regards Brian.

Yep, you're right. No lockout on the ZF box, just the dentent button on the side.
