distributor questions
ok so mow i have now nearly finished fitting the new engine, b230a i have got it running sweetly, but then doom struck, oil from the bellhousing, so got to change the crank seal, not a drama just anouther days work,
but it has got me thinking about the long term ingition system, at present i am running a dizzy with points, just wanted to keep things simple as possible to start with. i have a b230e (kjet) dizzy that has a magnetic pick up system to replace the points, from what i understand i will also need to find an ignition amp and the lead to conect it to the dizzy. what exactly dose the ing amp do exactly and how dose it work, how dose it conect to the rest of the ingnition system? and is there any thing else that i would need to convert to this electronic ingnition? many thanks neil |

Youre better off posting in the 200 general section not the wanted. Youd get a better response

The B230E ignition system is computerised and mapped , very advanced for then and not out of it's depth even today . So this ignition map is only suitable for a B230E engine , The B230A has a very high compression ratio so needs the correct timing advance curve from it's own distributor ..
The best simple electronic ignition system is from the 240 B23E and B21E engines from introduction in 1974 to 1980 ... the control unit is extremely reliable , and uses a magnetic sender in the distributor . You might be able to adapt that to fit in your B230A distributor . In 1979 i got one of these from a crashed 244 GL and fitted it to a classic car , it is still running fine today :-) However there is nothing wrong with the standard points , they work well and are reliable . going between 6000 mile services with no attention and have the bonus of being able to be fixed if you are ever unlucky enough to break down with ignition failure , with electronic , once it's gone thats it ! stranded ..
