Thanks but doesn't help. Just shows how to take whole unit off door, not how to dismantle it once its off (or on for that matter). Thanks anyway.

This one shows how to remove the outer casing, if that's any use to you.

Kevin thanks but I can get the back off no problem. The innards shown in the video are similar so I've attached a still from the video where the arrow shows the problem. That plastic 'gismo' sits on top of the swivel and I need to remove it to get to the metal spring clip on top of the swivel which holds the mirror body onto the bracket. I suspect when the van hit my mirror it moved the metal clip up a bit which allows the movement. I need to tap it back down to rectify the problem - but i can't see how to shift the 'gismo'. Photo attached

I see what you mean.

I've had a look online, but I can't really find anything. Sorry.

No I couldn't either... In the good old days, when I drove my first 144 I could have phoned Volvo UK Technical Services and asked. And someone, if they didn't already know, would find out and call back, usually within 24 hours. Today? Not a hope...
I'll just have to carry on trying different Youtubes and other sites - I'm damned if I'm buying a new mirror unit!
Thanks for trying

Sadly, there's not many videos about the P3 models in general. There's far more available for the older P2 ones though.

I understand that you don't want to buy a new mirror unit, but all the same, it might be your only option if you can't do a DIY job. The mirror only has a few serviceable parts (the mirror glass, the motor & the outer casing)... anything else other than those & I think you'll need a complete unit. That could be a reason as to why the info available is so limited.

You might be able (I haven't checked) to get a full used unit from a breakers yard for example, instead of faffing around trying to fix your existing one. Used will be much cheaper than new, but hopefully it'll be in good condition & won't be flopping going down the road like the one you have now!

Let us know how you get on. Hopefully you can do a cheap DIY fix, but I think its a possibility that you may need a new/good used complete unit.

Sorry I couldn't help.

Both mirrors on my XC70 wobble and shake when you touch them but there is no noticeable problem once driving. I’ve had them to bits but gave up trying to fix them.
I love my Volvo but have found the build quality of my 2008 P3 substantially lower than that of my previous P2 V70 and XC70 with it feeling plasticky and cheap in comparison; I often think I should have spent the money I spent buying the P3 on a thorough overhaul of my P2.

Thanks - how did you get them to bits... I'm willing to give it a try, but I can't work out how. I've attached a photo of my mirror innards - its the plastic moulding/connector arrowed which sits over the swivel which i need to remove, because it looks as though once you get to the swivel you can tighten it up by tapping the circlip back down to where it should be (it gets shifted out of place if the mirror gets a bang!)

Did you ever find a solution? I have same issue on my drivers side mirror on my S80.

Cool V70 - Loose door mirror

Sorry nothing 'professional' - I superglued a shaped piece of thin plastic into the gap - seems to have stopped the wobble! Have to take care that you only get glue onto the non-moving part.
