Default Loose door mirror

Door mirror body appears to be loose, wobbles at higher speeds and you can feel movement when static. Is there a screw/bolt whatever that connects body to the arm? V70 2008 Phase 3. If so how do I tighten it?

It's more common that it's the actual mirror that is becoming unglued, rather than the body itself.

It's quite an easy fix if that's the case.

Do a search on YouTube for “Volvo V70 door mirror” .The “how to’s” on there appear to show removal of the triangular trim on the inside of the door permits access to a single securing bolt.

The whole body moves, not just the mirror glass.

I think that removes the entire mirror body and mount. I suspect its the swivel joint that's is loose as the mount is solid, but the body rocks.

A “how to” on a S70 shows that there are three securing screws behind that triangular panel. Suggest you remove the complete mirror from the door and you may be able to see how the mirror head is secured to the stem/arm.

Default Loose mirror

I've tried taking the mirror and arm off completely BUT there seems to be no way to get to the swivel joint. Youtube has various videos all showing a flat circlip sitting on the swivel pin, which apparently can move and allow freeplay. Seemingly its just a matter of tapping it back down again. However, there is a moulded plastic component with wires going into it, immediately above the pin which stops you getting to the clip. Any ideas?

You don't need to remove the whole mirror from the door, or tighten any bolts. The adhesive behind the mirror has perished, which means wind/bumps make it move.

Behind the mirror itself, you'll see a small gap between the glass & the casing of the mirror assembly. Use a key or a small flat blade screwdriver & place it in that small gap, then pull towards the back of the car & the mirror will come away from its adhesive (make sure you have one hand to hold the mirror in case it falls & use your other hand to do the prying with the screwdriver or key). Once the glass comes away, you'll see a wire that you need to disconnect (this is for the heated function).

Clean the residue of the old adhesive away. Then you need to apply some new adhesive & refit the mirror. Simple job, just take your time with it.

Thanks Kevin but there's nothing wrong with the actual mirror lens and the frame behind it is glued in place and fine. The mirror lens clips in and out and once in is solid. The problem is the actual mirror body which moves (rocks, shakes etc) at the swivel. I suspect it happened when a van clipped my wing mirror. On top of the swivel is a plastic component with wires into it and it seems that this needs to be removed to get to and adjust to the metal ring that holds the body onto the swivel pin. But I can't see how to remove this component.
