Anyone got any tips on removing the old top engine mount before fitting the one I've just had delivered from Kalmar Union?
The old one appears to have 'welded' itself to the mounting bracket and is proving somewhat tiresome to remove bit by bit. I've got a colleague lending me a Dremel multi tomorrow to try and grind it off but if anyone has any tips on seperating welded rubber from metal they would be most welcome! Many thanks, Adam '94 850 T5 |

I have not done mine yet (new one in the glove box!), but I hear that a hacksaw through the centre holeof the bush can work wonders !

I haven't got round to fitting mine yet, but a thought that occurs to me for both removal and - especially - fitting the new one, is gentle heat.
If you heat the bracket with say a hair dryer or a heat gun on low it will expand slightly, allowing the old mount to slide out and the new one to slide in. If anyone tries this and it works, please post accordingly - I'm not going to replace mine until the old mount fails. Removing the old one will probably be helped by squirting oil onto the assembly - but remember to wipe it all off before putting the new mount in; you need a non-petrol based lubricant (I'll probably use cooking oil). |

If they're rubber mounts then water with a drop of Fairy Liquid (Other brands of washing up liquid are available) is much better than anything else as most lubricants like grease, oil etc will degrade the rubber.

Sorted! The Dremel fitted with a cutting bit took out a piece about 7mm wide. The bush then slid out easily.
Refitting was aided by the use of a grip type clamp to squeeze the two parts together. A point to note to anyone attempting this, make sure you introduce the metal sleeve BEFORE you put the polyurethane bits in as the centre hole will be significantly smaller once they have been squeezed into place! I didn't do this and my neighbours learnt some new words on Saturday morning. You will also need to remove the bracket that attaches to the bulkhead which is fun. Anyone know how you are supposed to get a torque wrnch into that tiny gap? Thanks all for your input. Very much appreciated. Adam '94 850 T5 |

The bracket can simply be folded down out of the way - I did my Kalmar bush without removing it - as I couldn't see how the @":@ you undid that bolt either.....
