Hi Edward I see you have forgot to mention the make and model of your car?
You have two cars listed in your profile so which one are we talking about.I'm sure sooner or later someone will be able to answer your query.
Oh and welcome aboard Brian.

I've got 1992 940 which are similar mechanics and Haynes manual says replace hub and bearing as one unit.Maybe good idea to do both anyway as hub can wear and you'll still have play after repalcing bearing.

If expensive maybe try getting one from breaker, not sure if 940/960 will fit on.
Have broken a couple of 740's but think hubs went to scrappy.

If you can get bearing only and it's easy to remove and fit then I'd do that.

Google 'brickboard' as there may be advice on there or get Haynes manual.

Depending on how much time/money/tools you have maybe get a quote from garage.

thanks mate. Fixed now. in the end i found that the idiot that sold me the car had left all the wheel nuts loose so on the fifty mile trip home i was lucky the wheel never came off. tightened them up and now all is great.

Apart from the awful fuel economy. If you have any ideas on how to improve be appreciated as want to keep it for years as its only done 128,000 one owner and everything works including the fuel gauge. I know thats hard to believe.
