Default iPhone Bluetooth Contact List Problems

Hi, I can't see this question answered anywhere else, so I hope someone can help.

I have a V50 with the bluetooth iPhone integration kit. I have been having problems with accessing my contacts through the car display. For some reason only about a third of my contacts were showing in the car's phonebook. I checked in MS Outlook on my PC, and I noticed that I had about five different contacts lists with various names, so I consolidated all these into one (called 'Contacts') and resynced the iPhone. Now when I connect through the car's Bluetooth connection, I can only access the one entry: Voicemail (although this actually gives me my own number, not my voicemail number!)

I have tried just cycling through the phonebook with the up/down arrow keys, resyncing the phonebook and using the search facility, but there is nothing there.

It's an iPhone 3 running OS5. I recently upgraded to OS5, but I was having the 'reduced contacts list' problem long before I upgraded.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Have you tried deleting and re adding the phone? The manual will show you how if you are unsure. This has fixed contact sync problems for me in the past.

the system will have a problem if you have more than about 750 contacts . try manualy sending all your contacts from the phone to the car via bluetooth .

Sounded like a good idea, but I've just tried it and no change. Thanks for the suggestion.

I get the synchronising message when I connect, and when I do a manual sync through the menu it says that they are downloading in the background, and I don't get any errors. I have 286 contacts, but it's just 'Voicemail' showing up (incorrectly) in the car phonebook, and that's not even the right voicemail number!

i dont think you have done what i suggested above , ie. in your PHONE select all your contacts , then SEND AS bluetooth to the car bluetooth device , it will then send the contacts to the car from the phone via bluetooth with a progress bar showing on the phone as they transfer . , thats on other phones , i am not familiar with apple products .

According to Apple, such a thing is not possible (see post here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread...art=0&tstart=0) but I thought the Volvo used PBA to access the phone book. It certainly used to be able to access at least some of the contacts in the phone book that way; this has only changed since I consolidated them. However, in the process of consolidating the contacts, I did also start to use one of the relatively obscure MS Outlook contact fields as a 'grouping' column. This transferred to the iPhone when I synchronised between PC and phone, so I wonder if somehow the car phonebook doesn't recognise this field and rejects the contact. I guess the thing to do is back up the contacts, remove this column and try again. I'll see if that works (but it may be a while before i can!)

Thanks, Clan, for your help so far.

Thats why i havent bothered with apple products they are a bit non standard and quirky .
but with any bluetooth phone you should be able to send files , pictures and contacts from the phone via bluetooth to a device ( car ) which will accept them .
