Question Non-Turbo Remap, Worth it?

I have two Volvo S80's A T6 (which the wife has taken) and a 140 BHP 2.4i manual which I am driving.

Has anyone (and is it worth it to) have a remap of the 140 BHP 2.4i engine and who near Nottingham would anyone recommend?

Some websites say that the 2.4i can only be raised to 160 BHP (if it is a 140BHP) or 183 -195 BHP (if it is a 170 BHP) despite both engines being exactly the same.

Listed prices are all over the boards as are power/economy claims.

TLDR --> Is it worth it for the Non-Turbo & has anyone had any results recommendations?

Morning.

It depends on how many miles you do, and how you drive.

We have remapped a few 140hp 2.4 engine range to 170hp. All who have had it done have noticed a difference in power delivery and an increase in fuel economy depending on their journey and driving styles.

here is a link..

The gains on the 170hp model are minimal, 185hp isn't going to happen, as such we don't even list it. We do however take the 140 to 175hp. We're based in Mansfield.

I had mt C30 2.0D tuned by a company in Sunderland, and TBH didn't notice any differeence. In my view it was a waste of money. They had all the sales pitch, graphs etc, but in the real world it didn't happen. Unless your car is put on a dyno before & after how are you going to tell?
Save your money. Just my view of course.

Not sure what company you dealt with.

When a 2.0D has been remapped, you will definately notice a difference in power delivery.

Totally agree with this. How did they perform the remap? There aren't many people who can remap the 2.0D without taking the ECU out and breaking it open, so if they aren't a well known Volvo tuner (or dealer for one) with the correct tools to read and write over OBD, and they didn't take out the ECU, perhaps it didn't actually get done?

If you look at the torque curves you can see a reasonable improvement in torque delivered between 2k and 5k rpm, i.e. real world driving, which you will notice more than the peak power improvement.

What you've got to balance is the cost:benefit - I'm always of the opinion that your car should be in tip-top condition before you go for a remap otherwise your just chucking good money after bad. If you can afford it, your car is in good condition and your insurer is prepared to cover you then go for it.

Increased torque means increased stress on engine internals, and presumably on the transmission. Does the 140 BHP have the same pistons, rods, and crank shaft as the 170BHP?

Why pay money up front to take a chance on shortening the life of the engine for a little more power? Very unlikely that a remap would improve fuel economy. Just accept the 140 for what it is.

WRONG !

Trust me, a good Rolling road Re map will improve the MPG. I have had 3 cars done and each one has shown a good benefit . I was getting at least 8 MPG out of my GOlf tdi . Others have been about 3-4 MPG more
