Question S40/V40 Brake Pads

I've got standard (new) volvo front discs for my V40.

Question is, what are the best brake pads to purchase?

Anyone have recommendations or URL links for some please?

Thanks

All a matter of personal taste, but as far as I am concerned, genuine Volvo ones.

OEM pads work best, there are very very few parts that are better than Volvo OEM unless you go with an EVO caliper setup etc

Also check the rear calipers that they are ok and no seized, our rear calipers can have issues it seems.

It's a not a problem unique to Volvos. Every car I've had with crappy combined handbrake/footbrake calipers has had issues.

I'm running Pagid currently with ATE super blue brake fluid, Destroyed unipart - they are crap to the point of being dangerous, and took out a set of ferrodo in 1800 miles after 130 miles at brands, the Bite from the Pagid is in a different league to the ferrodo's

Thanks for the feedback. I see there are also Bosch and EBC (Green Stuff) pads for HALF the price of Volvo pads! Makes you wonder whether you are paying over the top for official Volvo ones. Can they actually be any better than the others? Surely they are all made of the basic same pad stuff?

Brake pads, like tyres and oil, are one of those areas where everyone has their preference and everyone is completely convinced that they are right. Some people inist on OE, some like performance pads from Ferodo/Mintex/Pagid, some just bob down to the local motor factor and buy the cheapest and are perfectly happy with them.

My personal view is that if you buy a reputable brand from a reputable supplier you won't have any problems.

If you want good quality parts at decent prices you could do worse than try here:

I would say forget EBC they have various compounds, nothing of theirs seems to work well across temp range, Also if a kid runs in front of you, its your brakes, tyres, and reaction speed that affect outcome

Pagid 29 quid from eurocarparts with 'easter25' code

Again we get into personal opinion. I ran EBC pads on my Mini and my Alfa 156 and found them to be excellent in both cases.

Nice one Cookie. However, I checked this out earlier this afternoon and the Bosch pads were £26.00 - now they are £32.34 which makes the easter25 code (25% off) pretty worthless... one to avoid. I'll see what else comes up. Cheers.
