Default C30, 2.0l, high pitch whine, inside, right rear

Hi!

My C30 normally doesn't cause any issues what so ever, but since at least the last 6 months, I've had a sporadic high pitched whine (kind of like a buzz or even whistle) coming from the rear.

It comes from the right hand side (UK driver's side) from the rear sidepanel. It is only hearable, when the engine is running. It doesn't matter if the radio is on or off.

As said, the noise has occured sporadic and not always but now it is getting more and more common. It kind of hurts your ears too...

There isn't really much, what could cause the noise so I'm kind of lost.

Behind the rear right trim is the amplifier for the radio (High Performance) and I think that was it. Is there anything I am missing? Like pipes or filters or so?

What makes it mysterious is, that it occurs sometimes randomly. I have the really bad thought that it is the fuel pump or something to do with the fuel system... But I can't seem to find any pipes running (inside) the car which could be to blame. And as the noise seems "electrical" I am rather lost with this!?

Anyone have any idea what could be at cause?

As said:
- radio does not influence it
- engine running does (engine on: noise there, engine off: noise gone)

Any ideas?

Fuel Pump or fuel filter housing? (not sure where the filter is though).

Well, they are both on the left hand side of the car (opening for that is on the left). It def. is coming from behind the rear right trim...

I have no idea what is behind there though...

Hope you don't think this is silly, but could it be the wheel bearing on its way out?

Hi Daim,

Sounds like it could be your fuel filler flap? Obviously not the flap itself but the lock mechanism?? Right area for your noise.

Hmm... You can't hear the noise outside. Only inside. And then only with the engine running.

I am assuming the fuel pump or fuel filter...

Okay, after seeing the price for the fuel oump, I am hoping it is only the fuel filter.

I was informed by my dealership, that the fuel filter is supposed to be maintance free... The last 5 years it was though is there a Volvo service instruction for an interval regarding the fuel filter?
