Default Brake caliper bolts

I'm sure I've come across this issue before, and I'm sure I've discussed it on here, but I just can't find it...

One of the bolts on my rear calipers (Girling) is rounded and I want to get some new ones before I go about dragging it out kicking and screaming. You'd think they'd be easy to find given that it's recommended to replace them when you take them off, but no.

Does anyone know the dimensions (length, thread pitch, shoulder)? I pretty sure they're standard so I'll just find some 12.9 high tensile bolts to that spec. They'll be at least as strong as the originals.

I've just been on a bolt training course where the lecturer maintained that 12.9 were at high risk of hydrogen embrittlement and basically popping the heads off. He was banging on about it so much it's one of the few things that stuck!

the risk is significantly lower with 10.9s, while the strength is still very high and they are widely used in the automotive industry.

In summary, stronger is not always better...

...or just use the Volvo ones!

Would probably get more interesting quickly if doing 60 on a country road and you heard the brake caliper bolt heads pinging into your wheel arches.

I've got to be honest and say I wasn't being sarcastic

Succinctly put left foot ... and I read both of you as posting in good faith.

Thanks for the very interesting input Tony.
