Hi all,
Its been a while since I've owned a Volvo and I'm excited to say I'm going to look at a V40 1.8 sport tomorrow... 113k on the clock, FSH etc. The current owner tells me that the car is great except there is a slight blow from the exhaust and a 'whining' noise coming from the timing belt area. It isn't present all the time, and definitely isn't a rattle - more of a whine or whirr. Current owner tells me that its been checked with his mechanic and he's isn't concerned - so he's driven it like that for a couple of years without it affecting anything. Without hearing the noise myself - I was wondering if anyone had any tips on what to look for in this area? And if I should be concerned / walk away. The current owner sounds pretty honest, but I wanted to check with you guys before looking at the car. Thanks in advance! Matt |

When was the timing belt done and were the idler + tensioner replaced? Could be one of these items.
