Vacuum pump V70
I am the proud owner of a 1997 V70 with 231,000 miles on the clock.
the engine still runs sweet but, in the 5yrs I have owned the car, it has always had a noisy vacuum pump which is now getting noisier! Has anyone tried replacing the mechanical pump with an electrical pump and if so what were the results? Many thanks Tom |

OK will check this.
What I should have said is that a couple of years ago I dismantled the vacuum pump and lubricated the piston ring. This radically reduced the noise but only for a while. I am told these vacuum pumps are always noisy - is this true? |

Pretty much...especially as the old oil deposits build up in the series of one-way valves. With the engine running have you tried spraying a lubricant (3-In-One with PTFE) into the vacuum pump? If the car is going well otherwise I would treat it to a new Pierburg pump and genuine VW or Volvo pushrod. They are pricey, yes, but remember these are constantly working off the camshaft.
