S80: Stereo/SatNav/Phone - Cannot access surround sound settings

I am new to this forum, having just acquired my first S80. It's a 2007 model, imported from Japan earlier this year. I'm absolutely chuffed with it: beautiful condition, low miles, full service history and - the most important thing!! - the gorgeous Yamaha V8.

There is one thing I am not getting. The car has the Dynaudio sound system but I don't seem to be able to get the dash centre speakers to give any sound. I can select Dolby pro logic II or Surround 3 channel (and it says so in the lcd screen, on the left). However, this doesn't seem to enable the centre level and surround level controls. They're just not there! I can see the equalisers, select hearing position, but not the surround sound settings.

Is there a trick I'm missing? I've tried it with the radio, a CD, and AUX input.

read the owners handbook if you dont have it it wil be available online your new car looks great enjoy your new volvo

Oh yes I do have the handbook in English and I'm following the instructions! I can select 3-ch or Dpl2 but it doesn't enable the Centre level and Surround level.

I know better than to ask questions on a forum without checking all my documentation first
