Opinions - 2015 Volvo V40 issues and bigdealer problems !!

Hi! I am just wondering whether anyone has enough knowledge to
Help me! Super long post sorry

We recently bought a car ( we’re in NI) and on the 3rd week of owning the car had a few issues - the clutch was sticking in the dash and got completely stuck on me. We left the car into our own (reputable) garage, who changed the slave cylinder and had to do a few more things, as we thought it would be no problem as the problem is just gonna small as it’s only out of a (2nd hand) dealer. The car was not driving right before and after coming out of the garage it was worse as they said it really needed a full clutch - they self admitted this but knew we just bought the car and as family friends they recommend to take it back to dealer in order for them to fix as they done all they could without looking at major fixes and costs for us.

We contacted the dealer while the car was in our garage getting fixed and he said that it was no problem as long as they don’t charge crazy prices(they don’t as it’s reasonable).He said the car was under a 28 day warranty- the car broke down on day 17?- and I contacted him on day 25 for the first time to let him know what had happened and what was going on. We then texted him again when the garage said to contact him to see what they can do, and he then started saying I wanted the car here in the first place( he didn’t), they’ve took shortcuts, they just don’t want to do it etc…

After a while of back of forth we sent the car back to the dealer to be fixed. He is now blaming our dealer for ruining the car - apparently bending the whole undercarriage amoung other things. He is now changing just the clutch cylinder ( again) and the whole steering column has been removed and the car is in pieces internally as they’re doing it all from the inside? We have said no problem we’ll fork our garage’s bill as we don’t mind paying that as they helped us out, but he is trying to make us pay for the bil for all of the work he is completing.

I need major advice regarding what to do both in the consumer rights region and in the fixing of the car as nothing is sounding right to me as it’s constantly changing.

You could try your local Citizens' Advice for help. They're super helpful with this sort of thing.

Your fist mistake was letting another garage near the car, now as you have found out, it is a whole "he said / she said". If the car is financed, get them involved, not fit for purpose etc etc.

Other than that, consumer rights, and then the papers.

Out of curiosity, where did you buy the car?
